Home >> Sending Data

Email

The simplest method of sending most files. Email to projects@arrkeurope.com

Note: Please always remember to compress any files before attaching them - WINZIP, PKZIP and UNIX compressed files are preferred.

FTP - File Transfer Protocol

Transferring data using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is both fast and secure. Customers can only upload files to the FTP site and cannot view other folders or customer files.

  • FTP address: ftp.arrkeurope.com
  • Username: arrk
  • Password: sparkle

For those customers who do not know how to use or access FTP but who have internet access, the following can be used to transfer (upload) files to ARRK through Internet Explorer:

  • Connect to the Internet and open the Internet Explorer web browser
  • Delete all text from the browser's Address bar (where you would normally type in http://www.etc) and type: ftp://ftp.arrkeurope.com Or click here to upload your files now
  • You will now establish a connection with ARRK's FTP server. You need to click the Page icon then Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.
  • Enter Username: arrk and Password: sparkle.
  • To transfer files to ARRK, simply drag files from your local file system and drop them into the browser window. A dialogue box will pop up to inform you of the data transfer progress. Note that the data will not be visible to anyone else for confidentiality reasons.

Important Note: Please phone the projects department as soon as you send your files.

Disk and Tape

MS-DOS/Windows:

  • 4mm DAT/DDS tape (using 'Backup & Restore' or 'NT Backup')
  • 3 1/2" floppy disk
  • CD
  • Iomega ZIP

UNIX (SGi):

  • 4mm DAT/DDS tape - tar * format
  • cpio

*Note: Occasionally problems are experienced trying to read customers' data from tape. In order to create a tar archive that is portable to as many types of systems as possible, use the fixed block, non-byte swapped device, and a blocking factor of 20 (with any type of tape device). The following command would do this:

'tar  cbf  20  /dev/tape  filelist'
